Are you ready for winter storm season?

Outages and Emergency Preparedness

NTPC operates in one of the most challenging environments in Canada. Our service territory is made up of 23 separate power systems scattered over 1.2 million square kilometres.  Operations in the winter are even more challenging than in the summer.

Consider these facts:  all our hydro plants are in remote locations and our transmission system cuts through some of the harshest geography in North America.  Because of where we operate we have back up generation at all locations as well as emergency portable engines, spares and staff available to fly in to fix problems.  But we can only fly in daylight or when the winter storm breaks.  Many of the communities we serve are even more remote than our hydro plants.

Winter is upon us.  NTPC is as ready as it can be for possible emergencies. Please make sure you and your family are ready too. Experts, such as Getprepared.ca., recommend that you have an emergency plan and emergency supplies for up to 72 hours in the event of a major emergency. Does your family have emergency supplies for 72 hours? Does your family have an emergency plan? Does everyone in your family know that plan?

If you answered no to any of those questions, then you’re not as prepared for an emergency as you should be.
