Mike Ocko

20 years - Assistant Director, Thermal Region, Fort Simpson

Mike began his career in the utility industry in 1989 when he took a job as an electrician with the newly formed Northwest Territories Power Corporation, based out of Fort Simpson.

When he first arrived, Mike had no idea he’d end up calling the North home.

“I came up here from Edmonton for a little adventure and experience. I didn’t plan to stay here very long, but the North gets into your blood,” says Mike, “Now I wouldn’t dream of living anywhere else.”

In 2002, Mike became Manager of Operations and Maintenance and was recently promoted to the position of Assistant Director, Thermal Region.

Mike’s new position requires frequent travel to most of the smaller communities in the NWT. He now splits his office time between Fort Simpson and NTPC’s Regional Office in Inuvik – 200km above the Arctic Circle!
