Power Outage in Rae EdzoYellowknife (January 23, 2006) – At approximately 6:20am this morning the communities of Rae Edzo experienced a power outage. The outage was due to transmission line problems between Frank’s Channel Diesel Plant and Edzo. A line crew has been dispatched from Yellowknife to locate the problem and repair the line to Edzo. Power was restored to Rae at approximately 8:20am. The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) reports that efforts to restore hydro power to the communities of Rae Edzo continue. Work is proceeding on the damaged hydro line and tower as weather permits and considerable progress was made over the weekend as line crews lowered and began dismantling the damaged tower. Line crews are scheduled to install a new tower in the next couple of days however work scheduled for today was cancelled due to weather conditions that prevented helicopter flights which are needed to transport NTPC personnel and equipment to the work site.-30- For more information contact: Randy Patrick Vaughan Slade
