Power Corporation Chairman Re-Appointed

YELLOWKNIFE (May 31) - Minister Responsible for the Northwest Territories Power Corporation, Joe Handley, today announced the re-appointment of Gordon Stewart as Chairman of the NWTPC Board of Directors.

Mr. Stewart's re-appointment, for an additional three-year term, commences June 1, 2002 ending May 31, 2005. He was first appointed to the Board of Directors in 1995 and appointed as its Chairman in March 2000.

Under Mr. Stewart's chairmanship, the Power Corporation has undergone significant changes including the division of the Corporation, and a shift in focus to become increasingly customer-driven and resulting in a restructure and decentralization of the business.

"The Power Corporation continues to work toward a new vision of its role in the NWT economy and changing energy and environmental expectations", Mr. Handley said.

The Minister said he's pleased that Mr. Stewart has agreed to continue as Chairman of the Board for the Crown Corporation.

"There is no doubt that his experience and ability to provide continuity will be very beneficial to the future endeavours of the organization," he said.

In addition to his work with the NWTPC Board of Directors, Gordon Stewart is associated with a number of businesses in the Northwest Territories and is presently Chairman and CEO of BBE Ltd. He also sits on the Board of Peter's Expediting Ltd.
