Over
the next few weeks the Northwest Territories Power Corporation is to
hold a number of energy conservation seminars and workshops for customers
in Inuvik, Norman Wells, Rae-Edzo, Fort Smith and in January in Fort
Simpson.
Corporation spokesman
Peter Watt said that the Corporation has a good record for promoting
energy conservation.
'We are founding
members of the Arctic Energy Alliance and we have put on other workshops
prior to this years program. Regular customer newsletters and a brochure
that we produced last year explain some of the energy efficiency ideas
that customers can adopt to reduce their electricity consumption' he
said.
Watt said that energy
conservation is a win-win for both customers and the Corporation. The
more that customers can keep their monthly power bills below 700 kWhs
per month the better off they will be when they come to pay their monthly
power bill. The territorial power subsidy program subsidizes the first
700 kWhs that customers purchase. From the Corporation's perspective
energy conservation means that building additional capacity in the future
is delayed which keeps the long-term cost of production down.
The first of the
business seminars and residential workshops are to be held in Inuvik
on Wednesday 21 November and in Norman Wells on Thursday 22 November
and Friday 23 November. A representative from the Arctic Energy Alliance
will be the presenter. For more information contact your local NTPC
office.
