The Northwest Territories Power Corporation is headquartered in Hay River, NT, and is responsible for the generation and distribution of electricity throughout the Northwest Territories. The Director, Thermal Operations position is located in Inuvik and has the responsibility for all facets of diesel and gas power generation in Northern NWT, which encompasses the Deh Cho, Sahtu and Beaufort-Delta areas. This includes 16 diesel communities, one community served by natural gas and one stand-by diesel plant. This position will be part of the Corporations’ Executive Team and will have prime responsibility for leading and supporting the work unit team for the Region. This position provides direction, leadership and management of regional programs and services to ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation, maintenance and replacement of power generation, transmission and distribution facilities. Other responsibilities include the development and maintenance of effective community relations and customer service in all client communities and to promote business development activities which benefit corporate and community interests.
Candidates who possess effective interpersonal skills and management skills supplemented by demonstrated leadership and team skills are encouraged to apply. A solid understanding and knowledge of the utility industry and customer relations is required. Extensive proven management/supervisory experience in a utility or heavy industry is necessary, preferably in a unionized and team-based work environment. NOTE: The Corporation is currently reviewing its operational structure; as a result this position may report to the CEO or the COO.
Candidates with formal training in a related engineering discipline or management experience in a utility environment will be given preference. The Corporation has a comprehensive compensation package reflecting the senior nature of this position. The salary range is $107,000 to $140,000 per annum, plus an accommodation allowance of $4,200 per annum and a location allowance of approximately $10,800 per annum, as well as a defined benefit pension plan and relocation assistance.
