Stella Pellissey is a member of the Pehdzeh Ki First Nation located at Wrigley. Her parents were the late Wilson and his wife Caroline. Stella grew up in Wrigley where her parents raised a large family.
Stella resided at Lapointe Hall in Fort Simpson for six years and attended Thomas Simpson High School up to grade ten. Stella completed grade eleven and twelve at Sir John Franklin High School in Yellowknife. After graduation from high school, she took a year off to work and earn money for university.
With the strong encouragement from her father Wilson and other sisters, Stella enrolled in the Arts and Science program at the University of Saskatchewan. She completed a four year program majoring in Canadian history and minor in Native Studies. She returned to her home community of Wrigley after four years and took a research position with Pehdzeh Ki First Nation. Stella also worked as Justice Coordinator dealing with community justice issues with an emphasis on restitution and healing. Stella was promoted to Finance Officer with the First Nation and she continues to work for the band in this capacity.
