Currently, Mr. Cayen is the Chief Financial Officer of the Gwich’in Tribal Council in Inuvik, NT.
Prior to moving to the Northwest Territories and Nunavut some sixteen years ago, Greg was a partner in the accounting firm of Collins, Barrow in Windsor, Ontario. He received his Chartered Accountant training at the firm of Clarkson Gordon (now Ernst and Young).
Greg’s experience in the North began with the firm of Mackay & Partners as a senior manager. Greg left public accounting in 1991 and began his work with aboriginal organizations starting with the NWT Metis Development Corporation in Yellowknife. In 1993 - 1997, Greg was the Chief Financial Officer of the Gwich’in Tribal Council, just after the Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement was negotiated and signed. In 1998, Greg moved to the Eastern Arctic to work with Nunavut Investment Group where he was responsible for securing the financing required to build office and residential infrastructure for Nunavut. Upon completion of that assignment, Greg worked for Beaver Enterprises in Fort Liard, as their Chief Financial Officer. In 2001, Greg returned to work with the Gwich’in Tribal Council. Since then Greg has been overseeing the financial affairs of the Tribal Council, the Gwich’in Settlement Corporation and the Gwich’in Development Corporation.
Greg is a graduate of Ottawa University and attained his Chartered Accountant designation in 1983. He attained his Certified Management Consultant designation in 1998 and is currently pursuing additional studies towards his Masters Degree in Finance.
Greg serves on the board of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. In 2001, Greg became an Officer of St. John in the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem for service provided to the St. John’s Ambulance Organization.
Greg currently resides in Inuvik with his wife, Liz.
