Robert Schmidt joined the Northern Canada Power Commission in June 1980 where he began his career with the utility as a welder/millwright at the Inuvik generating facilities. He has held many positions in various northern communities with the Power Commission and later the Corporation. In 2008 Robert was promoted to the Director of the Hydro Region.
Robert holds a diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology and certification as an Electrical Generating Systems Tech. He is a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) and has completed both the York University Managers Course and the Queens University Executive Program.
Robert has also been actively involved with northern volunteer fire departments including serving as Chief for over 11 years and as a Coroner for the GNWT. He also continues to work closely with the Territorial Emergency Measures Organization. Robert and his extended family reside in Yellowknife.
