NTPC generates primary power in Norman Wells

Apr 28, 2017

HAY RIVER, Northwest Territories (April 28, 2017) – Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) begins generating the primary power for the Town of Norman Wells starting today – April 28, 2017.

For the past 28 years, Imperial Oil Limited (IOL) generated power that NTPC purchased for its customers in Norman Wells. Earlier this year, IOL announced a shut-down of their local production in Norman Wells.  NTPC will continue to generate power for the community for the duration of the shut-down.

NTPC’s generation facility in Norman Wells is tested regularly and is ready to supply power to the community. There is fuel onsite and NTPC has made arrangements with a local fuel supplier for additional diesel if required.

“Our customers in Norman Wells should feel confident that NTPC can produce the electricity they need for their lives and businesses,” said NTPC President and CEO, Emanuel DaRosa. “We have been generating power for almost 30 years in 26 communities – it’s what we do.”
