Electric Heat

Excess power from Taltson Hydro has replaced diesel-powered heat at Breynat Hall, JBT Elementary School and the Transportation garage in Fort Smith. This has resulted in a four year saving of some 525,487 litres of diesel fuel and displacing 1,464 tonnes of CO2. Hydro electricity is also heating the Jackfish backup power plants in Yellowknife when they are idle, saving about 84,000 litres of diesel fuel and 234 tonnes of CO2 each year. When the engines are running they provide the needed heat in season.
