  • Aklavik

    The total power supply capacity for Aklavik is 1.28 MW supplied by four 320 kW diesel generators and a 55 kW solar array

  • Behchokǫ̀

    Residents receive electricity generated by the Snare Hydro system. A 2.0 MW diesel generator was installed in 2012 to provide standby power.

  • Colville Lake

    This power plant has three diesel generating units ranging from 75-90 kW. A 132 kW hybrid solar/diesel/battery system was added in 2016.

  • Deline

    Total power supply capacity in Deline is 1.19 MW, generated by one 550 kW and two 320 kW diesel generators.

  • Dettah

    NTPC generates and distributes power for Dettah at the Snare and Bluefish hydro sites and through some diesel generation at the Jackfish plant in Yellowknife.

  • Enterprise

    NTPC generates power for Enterprise at the Taltson hydro site and that power is sold at wholesale rates to Northland Utilities Ltd. who distributes it to the community.

  • Fort Good Hope

    There are three diesel generators in Fort Good Hope with a total installed capacity of 1.23 MW.

  • Fort Liard

    Fort Liard has three diesel generators with a total capacity of 1.32 MW and installed solar capacity of 40 kW.

  • Fort McPherson

    Total installed capacity of the diesel power plant is 1.83 MW. A hot water heating system supplies some buildings in the community.

  • Fort Providence

    Power for Fort Providence is generated and distributed by Northland Utilities (NWT) Ltd.

  • Fort Resolution

    Fort Resolution receives power from the Taltson Hydro System. The community has one standby diesel generator with a capacity of 600 kW. There is a second standby 100 kW diesel generator located at Buffalo Junction on Highway 5, approximately 77 km west of Fort Resolution.

  • Fort Simpson

    This power plant consists of four diesel generators with a total capacity of 3.2 MW. A 104 kW solar array installed in 2012 provides up to 15 percent of Fort Simpson’s power needs.

  • Fort Smith

    Fort Smith is powered by hydro electricity from the Taltson Hydro System. A standby plant houses three diesel generators with a total generating capacity of 6 MW.

    Power is supplied in Gamètì by three diesel generators rated at 100, 212 and 300 kW.

  • Hay River

    NTPC generates power for Hay River at the Taltson hydro site and that power is sold at wholesale rates to Northland Utilities Ltd. who distributes it to the community.

  • Inuvik

    The Thermal Operations regional office complex is located in Inuvik. There are two power plants, one diesel powered with a total capacity of 6.2 MW, and one gas powered housing three gas-fueled generators rated at 2.8 MW, 2.8 MW, and 2.1 MW. The gas plant is now operating  with liquid natural gas delivered by truck from the south

  • Jean Marie River

    The power plant has three diesel generators with a total capacity of 265 kW.

    Power is supplied by three diesel generators rated at 180, 320 and 320 kW.

    The power plant has three diesel generators with a total capacity of 290 kW. One generator was replaced in 2013.

    NTPC purchases electricity from ESSO and resells it to the community. Norman Wells has a standby plant with two diesel powered generators with a capacity of 2.12 MW.

    The plant has three diesel generators with a combined capacity of 1.16 MW. A small heat recovery system heats three buildings in the community.  One generator was replaced in 2012.

  • Whati

    The main power plant contains two diesel generators, rated at 175 kW and 480 kW each. A separate module houses a 320 kW generator. A Waste Heat Recovery System provides heat from power generation to Mezi Community School.
