Northwest Territories Power Corporation would like to congratulate Darren Hazenberg for receiving a 2013 Lifesaving Award from the Canadian Electricity Association.
Darren was recognized for his actions last fall when driving between Yellowknife and Fort Providence. Seeing a car stopped on the road, Darren stopped to perform CPR on a man suffering from a heart attack.
“It’s incredible to have one of our employees recognized in this way,” said Emanuel DaRosa, President and CEO of NTPC. “He saw someone in need and didn’t hesitate to help. I’m proud to have employees like him representing our company. We encourage everyone at NTPC to have the public’s best interests at heart and it is inspiring when someone goes above and beyond that principle.”
Darren is a Power Line Technician with Northwest Territories Power Corporation, a position he has held for the past eight years. He and his wife, Kim, travelled to Ottawa to receive the award.
Introduced in 1922, the Canadian Electricity Association’s Lifesaving Awards are granted annually to any employee of a Canadian Electricity Association member utility who was involved in a lifesaving attempt over the past year. This year’s awards were presented November 5 by the Honourable Dr. K. Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour. The attached photo shows Darren with Dr. Leitch, as well as the Honourable Dennis Bevington, MP for the Western Arctic.
