President and CEO

Cory Strang’s commitment to the Northwest Territories’ electricity sector began in 1999 when he first joined the Northwest Territories Power Corporation after completing his Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Alberta. Cory has held several positions with the Power Corporation with increasing authority and responsibility including the positions of Manager, Treasury and New Business Development, and Manager, Treasury and Enterprise Risk. It was while in these roles that Cory gained valuable insight and experience in the management of the Corporation’s finance, operations, utility rate regulation, risk management, capital program, renewable energy programs, and new business development. In 2006, Cory obtained a Chartered Financial Analyst designation from the CFA Institute.
In 2016, Cory was promoted to the position of Manager, Budgeting and Regulatory Affairs where he was responsible for the development of the Corporation’s annual operations and maintenance budget including revenue forecasting and managing long-term corporate planning, cash flow forecasts and long-term debt management. In this position Cory was the corporate authority for the Corporation’s utility rate applications and represented the Corporation as corporate witness at Public Utility Board hearings. Cory was once again promoted in 2020 to oversee the Corporation’s Finance Division as Chief Financial Officer and in 2021was appointed as President and CEO.
Cory is Metis and was born and raised in Hay River NT making him the first President and CEO from the NWT. With more than 25 years of utility experience and his long-term dedication to the Corporation Cory plans to use his understanding of the often-complex utility concepts and communicate these in an open and transparent manner with community leaders, Indigenous Governments, the Board of Directors and the Shareholder.
