PowerWise Energy Conservation Website Launch
Northwest Territories (October 28, 2014) – The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) is launching the PowerWise energy conservation campaign this week, in partnership with the Government of the Northwest Territories’ Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Arctic Energy Alliance.
Beginning today, with a website with power-saving and money-saving tips and suggestions, the campaign will be rolled out during the next two months and will include posters, bill stuffers, pamphlets and even a children’s education piece.
“It is our hope that by combining efforts with Environment and Natural Resources and the Arctic Energy Alliance we will help Northerners save energy, while also protecting our northern environment,” said Michael Miltenberger, Minister of Environment and Natural Resources and Minister responsible for the Northwest Territories Power Corporation.
Due to the small number of customers in the territory and the fixed costs of power generation, electricity is more expensive in the north than it is in the south. The Powerwise campaign puts the control for power usage in the hands of the customer.
“Helping people efficiently use the electricity we generate and deliver is part of the responsibility of the Northwest Territories Power Corporation,” said NTPC Chair, Brendan Bell. “The PowerwiseNWT.com website provides useful information for both homes and businesses for conserving power and saving money.”
