The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) welcomes you as a new customer, effective March 1, 2025. We aim to provide you with outstanding electricity service and world-class customer support. Click here for a link to some initial frequently asked questions.
Since 1988, NTPC has been generating the power that Hay River customers depend upon and now we look forward to delivering that power to you directly. This page will provide you with key information that you need now that NTPC becomes your electricity distributor. There should be no disruption in your service when the distribution franchise moves to NTPC – there is no need for you to take any immediate action and you may not even notice that anything has changed. Your existing electricity account will transfer automatically to NTPC, although your personal banking information will not be transferred. That information will be collected from you at a later date.
NTPC anticipates that the first bills for Hay River customers will be issued approximately six weeks after the franchise transfer becomes official. The outstanding balance on your final Northland Utilities bill will be transferred to NTPC and will appear on your first NTPC bill.
The first activity you may notice is when NTPC staff arrive at your property to change your electricity meter in the coming weeks. Information about when the meter changes will be scheduled in your neighbourhood will be posted on social media. A door hangar will be left at your home or business to let you know when NTPC has completed replacement of your meter.
As the transition to NTPC progresses, you may want to review the range of payment options that are available to determine which one works best for you. Customers who are already enrolled in a program such as Preauthorized Payment, Budget Billing or Net Metering will be contacted by our Customer Care team to ensure that NTPC has the necessary information to maintain those services.
Our Customer Care team is happy to answer any questions that you may still have after reviewing this booklet. NTPC wants the transition of Hay River customers from the former electricity distributor to be as seamless as possible. Please contact us at: 1-855-575-6872 or customercare@ntpc.com.
