Hay River head office

Welcome Hay River Customers

The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) welcomes you as a new customer, effective March 1, 2025. We aim to provide you with outstanding electricity service and world-class customer support. Click here for a link to some initial frequently asked questions.

Since 1988, NTPC has been generating the power that Hay River customers depend upon and now we look forward to delivering that power to you directly. This page will provide you with key information that you need now that NTPC has become your electricity distributor. There was no significant disruption in your service when the distribution franchise moved to NTPC – there was no need for you to take any immediate action and you may not even have noticed that anything has changed. Your existing electricity account transferred automatically to NTPC, although your personal banking information was not  transferred. That information will be collected from you at a later date.

The first NTPC bills for Hay River customers were issued last week, approximately six weeks after the franchise transfer became official. The outstanding balance on your final Naka Power bill will be transferred to NTPC and will appear on your first NTPC bill.

As the transition to NTPC progresses, you may want to review the range of payment options that are available to determine which one works best for you. Customers who are already enrolled in a program such as Preauthorized Payment, Budget Billing or Net Metering will be contacted by our Customer Care team to ensure that NTPC has the necessary information to maintain those services.

Our Customer Care team is happy to answer any questions that you may still have after reviewing this booklet. NTPC wants the transition of Hay River customers from the former electricity distributor to be as seamless as possible. Please contact us at: 1-855-575-6872 or customercare@ntpc.com.

Keeping in Touch

NTPC uses a variety of methods to communicate with customers and to make it easy for you to stay informed. In addition to phone, email and this website (www.ntpc.com), we also have a Facebook page (NTPC – Northwest Territories Power Corporation) and an “X” (formerly known as Twitter) account (@NTPC_News).

Our website and social media accounts are used to share information about key activities and initiatives such as progress on major capital projects, current job openings, open tenders and planned and unplanned outages.

Online Customer Portal

NTPC customers have access to an online tool that allows them to access key information and complete various transactions related to their electricity account, including:

•           View consumption data from their meter

•           View and pay bills online

•           Review transaction and payment history

•           Analyze and download electricity usage data

•           Add multiple accounts to their web profile

The Customer Portal can be found at: www.myntpc.com. Once you have received your first bill, which will include your new account number, you will be able to register on the portal.

You will notice that there is not a line on your NTPC residential bill listing a subsidy from the Government of the Northwest Territories through the Territorial Power Support Program (TPSP). This is because the new power rates provided by NTPC are less than the residential rates in Yellowknife, meaning that Hay River customers no longer qualify for the TPSP.
