HAY RIVER, Northwest Territories (September 13, 2022) The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) is aware of great public interest in the power outages that occurred in Yellowknife, Dettah and Behchoko on Saturday, September 10 and Sunday, September 11, 2022. Based on the results of its internal investigation, NTPC can provide the following update.
HAY RIVER, Northwest Territories (July 22, 2022): Yesterday morning NTPC became aware of a small oil sheen that had appeared on the Mackenzie River in Inuvik. The sheen was not associated with a recent spill and is believed to be the result of historic contamination.
HAY RIVER, Northwest Territories (May 3, 2022) The NWT Public Utilities Board (PUB) has approved an interim rate increase for NTPC customers. The interim rates have been approved as part of the General Rate Application (GRA) process.
HAY RIVER, NT (March 31, 2022) – The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) has filed a general rate application (GRA) with the Public Utilities Board (PUB) to ensure that the revenue it collects through rates is recovering the cost of providing power to its customers.
HAY RIVER, NWT (December 11, 2020) – The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) announced that the Snare Falls Hydro Unit was removed from service yesterday. A diesel unit at the Jackfish Generating Plant will provide backup power while Snare Falls is offline, if required.
HAY RIVER, NT (November 25, 2021) – Today, Diane Archie, Minister responsible for the Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) announced the appointment of Mr. Cory Strang as President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC), effective November 28, 2021.
HAY RIVER, NWT (March 12, 2021) – The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) announced today that the Snare Rapids Hydro Unit has returned to service. The unit was shut down on February 2 when NTPC’s control centre received a number of alarms indicating that the generator was experiencing problems.
The failure of equipment in the main generator caused the original shutdown. Two of the 56 rotor poles in the unit failed and had to be sent offsite for repair. The unit has been successfully tested over the past 24 hours and is now considered back to fully functional.
HAY RIVER, NWT (March 5, 2021) – An employee of the Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) has been injured at the Jackfish Generating Facility in Yellowknife. The employee was transported to the Stanton Territorial Hospital for assessment and treatment. No further information about the condition of the employee will be provided at this time.
The incident has been reported to the Workplace Safety and Compensation Commission and will be thoroughly investigated.
HAY RIVER, NWT (February 12, 2021) – The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) announced today that the Snare Rapids Hydro Unit will remain offline for at least a month but could potentially be out of service through the remainder of winter. The unit automatically shut down on February 2 when sensors detected issues within the hydro generator.
