HAY RIVER, NWT (February 4, 2021) – The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) announced that the Snare Rapids Hydro Unit has been offline since approximately 7:45 pm on Tuesday, February 2. The loss of eight megawatts of generation from the North Slave electricity system has been offset by diesel generation at the Jackfish Generating Plant.

YELLOWKNIFE, NT (February 20, 2015) – The City of Yellowknife experienced a full power outage early Sunday, February 15, when the turbine at Snare Falls hydroelectric plant tripped off line while generating electricity. Power to the City was restored using additional diesel and hydro.

To contain and neutralize the impact of this incident, NTPC shut down most of its information technology services, affecting activity in most of the Corporation’s business areas.
HAY RIVER, NWT (May 29, 2020) – The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) announced today that the Snare Falls Hydro Unit has returned to service. The unit was shut down on May 4 following the discovery of an oil sheen near the facility.
The source of the leak from the hydro plant was located and repaired, the unit has been successfully tested and the unit is now considered back to fully functional.
HAY RIVER, NWT (June 16, 2020) – The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) announced today that it has successfully restored its website (www.ntpc.com) and customer service portal (www.MyNTPC.com). Both systems have been unavailable since April 30, when NTPC experienced a ransomware attack.

HAY RIVER, Northwest Territories (April 6, 2019) – After a lengthy day of mediation convened by Mediator Mort Mitchnick, the NTPC and UNW have reached a tentative Agreement. The parties both thank Mr Mitchnik for his efforts.
This tentative agreement is subject to final ratification by the parties.
NTPC is a wholly owned subsidiary of NT Hydro, which in turn is 100 percent owned by the Government of the Northwest Territories.
