HAY RIVER, NWT (May 31, 2018) – The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) wants to inform customers that electricity rates will increase on average by two percent, effective June 1, 2018.  The rate increase is tied to Decision 8-2018 of the NWT Public Utilities Board (PUB) regarding NTPC’s General Rate Application (GRA) for 2016-19.

HAY RIVER, Northwest Territories (February 16, 2018) -- NTPC is pleased to report that the Variable Speed Generator (VSG) Project in Aklavik has reached a major milestone with successful commissioning of the test unit. Electricity is now being provided to the more than 300 NTPC customers in Aklavik using a converter-based VSG platform. The VSG will also integrate solar power from a new 55 kilowatt solar array, installed by the GNWT earlier this year.

 

HAY RIVER, NT (July 6, 2017) – The Public Utilities Board (PUB) approved an application from the Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) to discontinue the Rate Stabilization Fuel Refund Rider effective July 1, 2017.

The Territorial Rate Stabilization Fund (Stabilization Fund) was created to help to keep electricity prices stable when fuel prices or hydroelectric outputs fluctuate.

HAY RIVER, NT (March 2, 2017) – The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) has filed a Phase II General Rate Application (GRA) with the Public Utilities Board (PUB).

The GRA process is an open and fair method of setting rates and is open for concerned parties to comment. Visit the NWT Public Utility Board website for more information on this process.

A new interim rate application has been filed, requesting an interim rate increase, effective
April 1, 2017, while the GRA is processed.

 

HAY RIVER, Northwest Territories (April 28, 2017) – Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) begins generating the primary power for the Town of Norman Wells starting today – April 28, 2017.

For the past 28 years, Imperial Oil Limited (IOL) generated power that NTPC purchased for its customers in Norman Wells. Earlier this year, IOL announced a shut-down of their local production in Norman Wells.  NTPC will continue to generate power for the community for the duration of the shut-down.

COLVILLE LAKE, NT (May 25, 2016) – Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) and the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) officially opened the Colville Lake power plant that boasts a solar/battery/diesel hybrid system that is one of a kind.

HAY RIVER, NT (May 2, 2016) – The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) has applied to the Public Utilities Board (PUB) for a refund rate rider that will decrease the per-kilowatt-hour price of electricity by 0.8 per cent.

The Fuel Stabilization Fund helps to keep electricity prices stable when the price of fuel fluctuates dramatically. When the price of fuel is high the fund goes into a deficit and NTPC needs to collect more from customers in order to make up the shortfall.

HAY RIVER, NT (April 29, 2016) – The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) has applied to the Public Utilities Board (PUB) for interim rates while the general rate application (GRA) is prepared and processed.

If the interim rate is approved, it will mean a 4.8 per cent increase in the price of power or approximately $10 per month for a residential customer using 1,000 kWh per month during the winter.
