HAY RIVER, Northwest Territories (April 3, 2019) – The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) has received notice from the Union of Northern Workers (UNW) that they intend to launch a legal strike at 12:01 am on Monday, April 8th.

NTPC and the UNW bargaining teams will be in mediated negotiation Friday, April 5 and Saturday, April 6. NTPC remains optimistic that an agreement can be achieved during this session.

HAY RIVER, NT (March 15, 2019) – The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) has applied to the Public Utilities Board (PUB) for a collection rider as the result of diesel prices continuing to be higher than forecast when rates were being set during the most recent General Rate Application. If the PUB approves the proposed three year collection period, a typical residential customer will have an average bill increase of approximately 2.5% or $8 a month.

HAY RIVER, Northwest Territories (February 21, 2019) Robert C. McLeod, Minister Responsible for the Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC), has appointed Noel Voykin as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation, effective April 1, 2019.

 

HAY RIVER, Northwest Territories (February 7, 2019) – The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) has received notice from the Union of Northern Workers (UNW) that they intend to launch a legal strike at 12:01 am on Monday, February 11.

 

HAY RIVER, Northwest Territories (December 13, 2018) -- NTPC is warning snowmobilers and others who use bodies of water such as Jackfish Lake for recreation and other activities that thin ice and open water pose a significant risk to their safety. People are advised to stay off Jackfish Lake near NTPC’s power plant as well as off Bluefish Lake near the hydro dam.

 

HAY RIVER, Northwest Territories (October 12, 2018) -- NTPC reported today that a bearing failed on one of the 4.3 MW units at the Snare Forks Hydroelectric Facility on October 9, 2018 and the unit has been taken out of service. A second 4.3 MW unit at the station continues to generate electricity. Removal of Unit 1 from service represents a total generation reduction of approximately 15% from the North Slave hydro system.

HAY RIVER, Northwest Territories (October 10, 2018) -- NTPC customers will notice a new look to their electricity bills in October. The redesigned bill layout provides more information about electricity consumption to customers and is easier to read. An “Understanding Your New Bill” information sheet will accompany the October bills.

HAY RIVER, NWT (September 22, 2018) – The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) has reported that a small fire occurred yesterday afternoon at its gas plant in Inuvik, NT. The fire was contained in an exhaust pipe and was safely extinguished by employees prior to the arrival of the Inuvik Fire Department.

 

HAY RIVER, NWT (July 25, 2018) – The Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) wants to inform customers that a GRA Adjustment rate rider will come into effect on August 1, 2018.  The rider is tied to Decision 12-2018 of the NWT Public Utilities Board (PUB) regarding NTPC’s General Rate Application (GRA) for 2016-19.

 

HAY RIVER, Northwest Territories (July 4, 2018) -- Mr. Mort Mitchnick, a highly-regarded mediator with more than 30 years of experience, has been chosen to assist the Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) and the Union of Northern Workers (UNW) attempt to conclude a new Collective Agreement.  Mediation dates have been scheduled with Mr. Mitchnick for November 14 - 16, 2018 in Yellowknife.
